I decided that I had to get to work on Vivi's costume. I knew about a month ago that she would be a fox since she already had some key accessories...a fox stocking hat, cloak, mittens and old coat...yes we might have a thing for foxes. :)
I went to Hobby Lobby and purchased a 1/2 foot of fuzzy white material, which cost me $1.50. This was the only purchase I made. Not too shabby!
Here is what I used to create the costume:
- Hot glue gun + glue
- Fuzzy fabric
- Spray paint
- Coral colored coat with ears (or a sweatshirt or long sleeve t-shirt + homemade ears)
- Coral colored pants
- Sheet of paper
- Safety pins or velcro
- Scissors
I started with the tail. I rolled the fuzzy fabric together and hot glued the ends together.
I cut a simple paper template that I used to shield the tail end from the spray paint. I took my coral spray paint and painted the exposed tail fabric.
I left the tail outside to air out for 2 days, which took away all of the spray paint smell. Perfect!
That's it....Not too shabby for $1.50. :)
The rest was easy. I safety pinned the tail to the waistband of the pants as well as a rectangle of the white fuzzy fabric to the chest of the coat from the inside of the coat.
Lastly, I put the coral pants, fuzzy boots and fox coat on Vivi, and added a little eye liner pencil to her nose (the coat is a size 3-6 months and she is 16 months, but we made it work, haha).
Then I let the fox loose, ha.
She didn't even mind wearing it...it's a miracle!
Are you DIYing your Halloween costume(s) the year? If so, what are your plans? I wanna know. :)
