Even though fall has just begun, I can already feel my skin getting tighter and dryer. Usually by wintertime it's uncomfortably dry, and I haven't found anything that really helps yet. Until today...it only took 34 years.
I bought some organic coconut oil a couple of months ago, but hadn't really done much with it until today when I realized that I already had all of the ingredients on hand to made a homemade body scrub.
It was SUPER simple and literally took one minute to make from start to finish.
All you need:
1/2 cup of coconut oil
1/2 cup of sugar
Zest of two lemons and/or 8-10 drops of lemon essential oil (I used both because I like to live on the edge)
Stir all three ingredients together (you can also mash it together with your hands like I did).
Fill a cute little mason jar with your scrub, and you have yourself an inexpensive yet luxurious body scrub. Use for yourself on damp skin or give it as a thoughtful little gift!
PS. I used the scrub on my face as well, which left it baby soft. If you have super sensitive skin you might want to test an area before you use on your whole face. Amazing.
PPS. I even went on to make a hair mask with 2 parts coconut oil and one part olive oil, which took only 30 seconds to make, and left my hair silky smooth.
Dude - I'm now a coconut oil believer!!

PPPS. I always appreciate you Pinning and sharing my projects! :)
I definitely want to try this, but I've been wondering about the Lemon essential oil. It says that you are supposed to avoid sunlight exposure for a while after putting it on your skin. Have you noticed any "issues" with sun exposure after using this scrub?
ReplyDeleteThat's a good question, Jamie. I didn't notice any issues with that while I was briefly in the sun. The ratio of the lemon oil I used was so small compared to the large amount of coconut oil, so I bet there are only traces. But I'm no doctor. :)
