DIY // EASY PAINT DIPPED TUMBLERS

Don't you love it when you set out to do a DIY project, and have an idea of what you plan on doing, but a happy accident makes it even cooler than it originally would have been?

Well that happened with a recent project, and I really like the end result.

Best part: This is one of the easiest projects I've ever done. Even better!

You'll need:

- A glass tumbler (or juice glass)
I got mine in a 4 pack at Wal-Mart for around $4

- Acrylic paint paint with the words "enamel" in the title work best
I used this brand in opaque   Available online and at most craft stores for around $1 - $2 a bottle

- A paper plate (if you're the messy type)

- An oven

Take your tumbler and pour some of your paint in it. Start with less than you'd think. You can always add more as you go.

Take the glass and start moving it around slowly on it's side (tilted slightly downward to the floor)

The paint is pretty thick, and takes awhile to move around the inside of the glass. This is great for avoiding spills.

Keep moving the glass around until you're happy with your imperfect dipped pattern. You might see a few small bubbles in your paint. I took my finger and lightly dabbed them, and then swirled more paint over the area to get rid of them.

Set the tumbler aside for 3 days to dry. I did two tumblers at once.

After the 3 days place the tumber in your oven before you even turn the over on, so it gets up to temp slowly and avoids breakage.

Set the bake temp to 325 degrees, and remove after 30 minutes. This sets the paint, and also makes them dishwasher safe.

What do ya think? Kinda cool looking huh?

You can fill your tumbler(s) with office supplies, a small plant, a flower, candle...you name it. they'd also make great gifts. :)

PS.  KC peeps, I'll be live on KCTV5's Better Kansas City this morning with a few projects, and this will be one of them. Just in case you want to tune in.

xoxo
