We also just finished painting our front door today. We chose a light aqua color...actually my husband's idea (whoa!). I'll have all of the the before and after photos up later this week.
To celebrate a freshly painted front door, I threw together a quick DIY Sunday night in 30 minutes using only items from our basement. Score!
I found an unused Holiday wreath and some burlap in the basement, and knew that they would work perfectly with the lit marquee letter that I have been wanting to create for the front door.
I started off by cutting a big red ribbon off of the wreath.
Then I cut long strips of burlap and wrapped it around the wreath hot gluing occasionally.Until the entire wreath was covered.
Next, I created my marquee letter, which I created following the same steps from the Halloween letters that I did a couple of weeks ago. You can see that complete tutorial here. I used battery operated lights on this one.
The doilie works well holding the letter in place, and it also helps disguise the wires in the backside.
Just plug your lights into the letter from the back through the doilie.
And here's the finished and lit wreath. Not too shabby for free, and I can't wait to add to it throughout the year. :)
