THE HOUSE...IS FINALLY PAINTED

Soooo....I can't wait to finally show an after photo of our newly painted house!!
Be patient. :)

Back story:
I originally hired Brandon Knetter, who hangs our holiday lights, and is also a firefighter and  skilled house painter/etc. to do the job, but at last minute Ted volunteered to do the job DIY. I was hesitant, but of course thought the money savings would be lovely. :)

Tedgar eagerly started painting our house in May...

He is a self-proclaimed perfectionist/eagle scout type, and takes aaawhile to do things. Me...I get shit done so quickly it's crazy. Is it perfect? Nope, not at all, but it's done, haha. To each their own. This is our biggest difference, ha.

I begged him to start with the front just incase he lost steam quickly and needed a break, but he assured me that he wanted to start with the sides and get to the front last.

Ok, I said. :)

Here he is going at it the first day....he got the two sides done pretty quickly in a week (minus the too tall chimney parts that the ladder couldn't reach).

And a couple of weeks later (intermingled with his marathon training), he finally made it to the front. Whoot. Did I mention he was using one brush? Ha.

And he painted the front left half and ran out of steam...for a couple of months.

We even got a warning letter from our HOA...Yep. Cringe.

We soon realized that his time is worth soooo much more, and I hated that I couldn't really help with the project. He spent so much of his precious free time on it, but it would have made more sense to just hire out to start. Lesson learned.

So, I reached out to Brandon again, who was booked solid  then to a few other painters, who were flakey and failed to respond over a couple of weeks, until we found a guy to finally finish the job for us in late September. Whew.

When the new painter came to quote it, he complimented Ted's paining skills and said he had done everything perfectly. That was reassuring, but I would have expected nothing less. :)

Aaand....finally here is the final photo.

House paint: Dovetail Grey - Sherwin Williams (Duration)
Door paint: Whipped Mint - Behr

FYI:
All that is left to be DIY'd is adding new terraced stone landscaping and three new goose neck outdoor house light fixtures.

Ted is hoping to add the terraced landscaping stones in the next month or two.

And we like outdoor lights similar to these:

What do you think? Opinions, please. :)

We're getting so close!

Tell me, have you ever DIY painted your house?  I do think if we were a one or one and a half story home, it could have been done, but our peaks are annoyingly higher than our ladder. Boo!

At the end of the day, the project took awhile, but Ted doing 70% of it himself saved us over $2,500. We had to pay $1,1oo to have someone else finish it. Not too shabby, I guess. Bam.

  3. Wow! Your newly-painted house looks classy and very modern. Ted and the new guy did a great job in finishing all that as soon as possible. I think it’s safe to say that everything turned out the way you wanted it to be. Keep on posting your great projects and your house. Cheers!
